How to care for a hand-crocheted bag (so it lasts years)

Washing, drying, storing and fixing a snag — the five minutes of care that keep a made-to-order piece looking new.
A hand-crocheted bag is yarn, and yarn is forgiving — right up until you put it in a washing machine. Here's the whole of it.
Washing
Hand-wash only, in cold water, with a mild detergent. Never put it in a machine: the drum's agitation stretches the stitches permanently and no amount of blocking brings the shape back.
Press the water through it. Don't wring it, don't twist it.
Drying
Lay it flat on a towel, out of direct sun. Stuff the body loosely with a second towel or clean cloth so it dries in its own shape rather than collapsing into a flat sheet.
Hanging a wet crochet bag by its strap is the single fastest way to ruin one — the weight of the water pulls the handle out of shape and it stays that way.
Storing
Stuff it lightly and stand it upright. A bag stored empty and squashed under other bags takes on the crease of whatever was on top of it.
Fixing a snag
Don't cut it. A pulled loop is still one continuous thread — ease it back through with a crochet hook or a blunt needle and the stitch closes up. Cutting turns a two-minute fix into a hole that will run.
When to just ask us
If a strap works loose at the join, message us on WhatsApp before you try to sew it. These are made by hand in small batches, and it's usually faster for us to repair it properly than for it to be patched twice.
